Transforming Darkness into Light

Michael Berg's meditation
for the letter Chet

The letter Chet as a structure of transformation, with Light descending from the upper triangle
The Chet as a structure of transformation

In the month of Cancer, we meditate on the letters Chet and Tav. This page holds the practice Michael Berg shared for the Chet: placing the challenge inside the letter, touching the Source at the top of the structure, and letting the Light descend into what once looked like darkness.

How to do the meditation
01

Bring the challenge

Think of the most difficult situation in your life right now. Don't soften it, don't explain it away. Just recognize the point that feels dark, heavy, or separate from the Light.

02

Put it inside the Chet

Visualize the letter Chet as an ancient structure, with borders and a triangle on top. Put that whole challenge inside it, enclosed within the space of the letter.

03

Awaken the certainty

The reason something feels like a challenge is the lack of certainty that it comes directly from the Light of the Creator. If it comes from the Light, it also carries a possibility of benefit, correction, and blessing.

04

Bring the Light down

Raise your consciousness to the tip of the triangle, the Chai Ha'olamim. From there, see the Light descending into the darkness, connecting the Source to the challenge.

05

See it all filled with Light

Let the entire Chet fill with Light. The situation isn't outside of spirituality: it is reconnected to the Source and transformed into Light, into blessing, into joy.

This month's practice

Every challenge enters the Chet

Every challenge enters the Chet, with Light descending from the upper triangle
Every challenge enters the Chet

Michael Berg almost promises: if, during this month, you take every challenge and every darkness and do this work inside the Chet, your vision begins to change. Fewer things seem disconnected from the Source. Fewer situations feel merely upsetting.

1

When something triggers pain, fear, or reactivity, pause for a few seconds before responding.

2

Visualize the situation inside the Chet, enclosed by the borders of the letter.

3

See the top tip radiating Light into the letter, until the entire situation is filled.

4

Say inwardly: this too comes from the Light of the Creator; this too can be for my benefit.
