This page is a synthesis of Karen Berg's lesson for Shabbat Shlach Lecha, the portion of the spies, of fear, and of the secret of the three Hebrew letters that, rearranged, transform אֲנִי (Self) into אַיִן (Nothingness).

A revelação central da aula The lesson's central revelation

Três letras. Duas realidades.

Three letters. Two realities.

Ani
Eu
Self
Ayin
Nada
Nothingness
As mesmas três letras The same three letters : א · נ · י · apenas reorganizadas just rearranged

O Ani vê a figura completa do "eu mesmo". O Ayin é o esvaziamento, o lugar onde, sem ego, sem ruído, podemos finalmente receber a Luz do Criador. Toda a vida espiritual é esta passagem.

The Ani sees the whole picture of "myself." The Ayin is the emptying, the place where, without ego, without noise, we can finally receive the Creator's Light. All of spiritual life is this passage.

As duas leituras dos espiões

The two readings of the spies

Some say the spies were driven by ego, they feared losing their positions as tribal leaders once Yehoshua took over entering the Promised Land. Karen reveals she prefers another reading:

In the previous week's portion, Eldad and Medad prophesied within the camp that Moshe would die in the desert, and that Yehoshua would replace him. The spies said to each other: "We don't want another leader. Why be subject to the light of the Moon, instead of the light of the Sun?"

Whichever side of the coin it is, one thing is certain: in that moment, they lacked certainty in the Light of the Creator.

02

"Entrem na terra. É onde vocês pertencem"

"Enter the land. That's where you belong"

The Creator was explicit: "Move forward. Enter the land. Don't worry about the things you'll see there, for I am with you."

The answer to what happened with the spies is simple and devastating: they lacked certainty. And the place where certainty is born isn't the place of the Self.

"When the Creator says 'I will be there with you', that's the moment we should empty the self, not fill it." Karen Berg, on the spies' lack of certainty
03

Por que meditamos? Para esvaziar.

Why do we meditate? To empty out.

Karen explains meditation's deepest purpose:

"O propósito é esvaziar a mente. Karen Berg
"The purpose is to empty the mind. Because only in the Ayin, only in nothingness, only in our capacity to remove the negative within ourselves, is a place where we can find that stillness. That stillness, that part of the Creator, is in the stillness." Karen Berg

It isn't technique. It's emptiness. It's the only way to receive the Creator's messages, to feel His presence within our being, when we remove our Ani, when we remove the part of the ego that keeps us from hearing anything.

04

The spies were reincarnations of Yaakov's sons

The 12 spies weren't just any men, they were the incarnation of the souls of Yaakov's 12 sons, the 12 tribes. And, just like Yaakov's sons, even at the highest spiritual level, they were afraid.

"Will Yosef kill us now that our father is gone?", that same fear returned in the spies. And it returns in us.

The question that comes from the Ani How many times do we clearly see the right path, but stop to ask: "What will my friends say? What will my family say? How will they look at me?" Karen is direct: this comes from the Left Column, from negative energy. It's the Ani speaking louder than the Ayin.
05

Sheker has a shin, the lie has a little truth in it

Why do we believe lies? Karen opens up the secret of the word sheker (שֶׁקֶר), falsehood: it has a ש shin, the letter that is the union of the negative and the positive.

A lie is usually believed when it has a spark of truth inside it. And that's exactly what the spies did: they brought the enormous grapevine, the huge fruits. "The land is beautiful, fertile, abundant, except for the giants." The spark of truth made the poison swallowable.

"The lie isn't the opposite of the truth. The lie is the truth contaminated by a little fear." synthesis of Karen's explanation of sheker

Calev went to Hebron, the first visit to the Tzadikim

Yehoshua recebeu a letra ה

Yehoshua received the letter ה (Hei) from the name Sarai, transmitted by Moshe, an energy that descends from above downward to protect him among his opponents.

Calev said: "And me? What did I receive?" So he did something unprecedented: he went to Hebron, to the cave of the Tzadikim, and begged Avraham, Yitzchak, and Yaakov: "Protect me. Let my mind see only the truth."

This is the first time in the Torah that someone goes to the Tzadikim for protection. Calev drew the energy from below upward. Together, Yehoshua and Calev formed a bonding union, and were the only spies to remain steadfast.

The portion's giant Yud, without heart, nothing lasts

In this portion, for the first time, there's a י yud written enlarged. The yud is the smallest letter of the alphabet, but here it's gigantic. Why? It's the symbol of the sign of Virgo: our criticism, our space of uncertainty.

Karen recalls Akhitophel and Doeg, great sages of the Sanhedrin, with tremendous minds. They studied, they knew everything. But they had no humanity. And without humanity, Karen teaches, there's no such thing as learning, no such thing as being part of the Creator.

"O coração fica no meio do corpo, e Jerusalém é o coração do mundo. Karen Berg
"The heart sits in the middle of the body, and Jerusalem is the heart of the world. If we have no heart, even if our mind can manifest magnificent things, it will never last." Karen Berg

Moshe reached Ayin, and this is the invitation for us

The Creator told Moshe: "Let Me destroy them. I'll make another nation out of you." Moshe could have accepted. But Moshe was "nothing in terms of ego", open, empty, ready to receive the Light. And he answered: "But the nations of the world will look and say the Lord had no mercy, as it is written in His book."

O Criador estava esperando essas palavras.

The Creator was waiting for those words. Sometimes, He waits for ours too, He waits for us to say: "Wait. Yes, I feel anger. Yes, I feel jealousy. But wasn't I placed here for a purpose? Isn't this moment in my life specific?"

Karen Berg, fechamento
"Moshe was able to reach the level of Ayin. It's in the stillness, in knowing we're nothing compared to the force of the Creator's Light, that we're a candle next to the Sun, that we can find our oneness with the Creator within ourselves." Karen Berg, closing
A Prática · do Ani ao Ayin The Practice · from Ani to Ayin

Esvaziar para receber

Empty out to receive

1
Identifique o momento Ani.
Identify the Ani moment. It shows up as a question: "What will they think of me? How will I look? What if I get it wrong?" When that voice rises, you've just found the Ani.
2
Pare. Não responda à pergunta. Não argumente com ela. Apenas pare e reconheça: "Isto é o Ani falando. Vem da Coluna da Esquerda."
Stop. Don't answer the question. Don't argue with it. Just stop and acknowledge: "This is the Ani talking. It comes from the Left Column."
3
Veja as três letras se reorganizando. As mesmas três letras. Você não muda, apenas se reorganiza.
See the three letters rearranging. Mentally, let אֲנִי come apart and rearrange into אַיִן. The same three letters. You don't change, you just rearrange.
Sou uma vela em relação ao Sol.
I am a candle next to the Sun.
4
Entre na quietude. Por 30 segundos, sem fazer nada. Sem fazer mantra. Sem "trabalhar" espiritualmente. Apenas escutar o silêncio. "Aquela parte do Criador está na quietude."
Enter the stillness. For 30 seconds, do nothing. No mantra. No spiritual "working." Just listen to the silence. "That part of the Creator is in the stillness."
5
Aja a partir do coração, não do conhecimento. Sabemos muito. Aprendemos muitas ferramentas.
Act from the heart, not from knowledge. We know a lot. We've learned many tools. But we're only spiritual when we practice what we preach. Ask yourself: "Does this action have heart, or just knowledge?"
6
Remember Calev. When the collective pressure is too great, do as he did: ask the Tzadikim for protection. "Let my mind see only the truth." Asking isn't weakness, it's Calev's spiritual intelligence.

Today, where is my Ani louder than my Ayin? And what would happen if I let the three letters rearrange right now?
