SHABBAT PINCHAS · healing the arteries of the body, business, and heart

This page gathers the key insights from Billy Phillips' article "The Power of Pinchas", about the unique healing force ignited on the Shabbat when we read the portion of Pinchas, and the Zohar's secrets about the true origin of all illness.

In Billy's own words

As we hear the Torah on Shabbat, know one thing for certain: The Light that radiates from the Reading, the uttering of the words and the elevated sound of the letters will pour through all the arteries in our lives to unclog them, to clean them, and to free them of all unwanted fat, plaque and waste. This Light and energy will peak at the Third Meal when the arteries connecting the world on all levels of existence will be rebuilt.

This is our meditation for the Pinchas portion of the Torah. This is our Shabbat of deep healing. For us and for the entire world.

Remember, the more we pray for others, the more Light flows to the world to heal the arteries in our bodies, the arteries in our businesses, the arteries that link us to our friends, and the arteries that exist between the nations.

Healing, peace and prosperity will be free to flow until the end of Shabbat.

Expect and demand all of this.

From illness to healing

healing

The Zohar teaches that all illness, of the body, business, or marriage, is born from the same place: our reactive and self-centered behavior toward others. And all healing is born from the same inverse movement: responsibility, remorse, and a broken heart. It is this movement, from חלי to רפואה, that the Shabbat of Pinchas ignites once a year.

Eight insights · Pinchas Portion
01

Once a year, a healing force is ignited

Every year there is a unique date to ignite the deepest healing forces during Shabbat. In Hebrew, this Torah portion is called Pinchas, and it radiates an intense flow of Light and Energy that heals.

According to Billy Phillips, 99% of the world has no idea of the power of this statement. And there is more: this portion also holds the hidden cause and the true origin of heart disease, and, in fact, of all illness.

"These ancient secrets of healing are identical to the recent discoveries of the medical-scientific community." Billy Phillips
02

The Zohar knew about cholesterol before science

In 1959, the FDA declared that the relationship between cholesterol and heart disease "had not been established." Only in 1964 did Konrad Bloch win the Nobel Prize for discovering that cholesterol forms fatty deposits in the arteries. And only in 1984 did medical science confirm, in a report by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, that there are two types of cholesterol, the "good" (HDL) and the "bad" (LDL), and two types of fat.

The Zohar, commenting on this same portion, had already said exactly this, twenty centuries earlier.

"In the body there are pure and impure fatty parts, pure blood without residue of matter and blood contaminated with residue of matter." Zohar, Vol. 20 (Pinchas)
03

Liver, bile, and the bitter spirit

In both Portuguese and English, the word for liver bile also designates "bitterness of spirit", rancor. The liver secretes this bile, whose main component is cholesterol itself.

The Zohar teaches that when we behave with a bitter, reactive ego, this is literally what our liver "offers" to the heart: the impure fat. When we resist that impulse, the liver offers the heart the pure fat.

"From the liver and the appendix emerges the bile, which is the sword of the Angel of Death, from which come bitter drops that kill." Zohar, Vol. 20 (Pinchas)
04

It's not the diet. It's behavior.

So what is the origin of all illness? Our behavior toward others, our degree of reactivity and ego versus our proactive and altruistic actions. It is not the food we eat. It is not our diet. And, at its core, it is not even our DNA.

The Zohar offers a simple metaphor: a police report that only describes how the weapon works is useless if we don't discover who pulled the trigger. Food, genes, and circumstances are just the weapons. The cause is ourselves, through our behavior with friends and enemies.

05

Every relationship is an artery

The blockage doesn't happen only in the body. All the relationships in our lives, between husband and wife, between partners, between parents and children, between nations, are spiritual arteries. When we act by reactive impulse and self-interest, we create a "fat deposit" there.

If these blockages grow unchecked, the "illness" sets in, and can manifest as poverty, divorce, a dysfunctional family, or a good old heart attack.

06

Responsibility: the first step toward healing

It is easy to blame food, fate, genes, or others for our pain. It is the simplest way to free ourselves from personal responsibility. But the Zohar is clear: the first step of healing is to shed the victim mentality.

We must recognize that it was something we did, in this life or a past life, that opened the door to illness. Only when we fully accept that responsibility do the tools of Kabbalah awaken the Light of the Creator to heal us.

07

The tools: a broken heart opens healing

Some of the most powerful healing tools of this Shabbat: hearing the Torah reading; scanning the Zohar (especially Volumes 20 and 21, of Pinchas); participating in the Third Meal; drinking Kabbalah Water; and giving charity, even when it hurts.

But none of them works alone. The Zohar says the key that activates all the others is remorse, recognizing the indignities we have shown to others.

"A broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart..." Zohar, Vol. 20 (Pinchas), citing Psalms 51:19
08

You are the cause of your own healing

The Light that radiates from the Torah reading on this Shabbat runs through all the arteries of our lives, those of the body, the business, those connecting us to friends and nations, to unclog, cleanse, and free them of all unnecessary weight. This Light reaches its peak at the Third Meal.

The more we pray for others, the more Light flows to heal the arteries in our bodies, businesses, and relationships. Expect and demand all of this.

This week's practice · the Shabbat of Pinchas

Six steps to open your arteries to the Light

1
Hear the Torah reading with full presence. This Shabbat, hear (or read) the Pinchas portion with an open heart, not as ritual, but as medicine.
2
Take inventory of your arteries. Body, business, marriage, friendships, where do you feel a blockage of flow, of love, of prosperity today?
3
Ask who pulled the trigger. Instead of blaming your diet, fate, or others, ask: what behavior of mine opened this door?
4
Scan the Zohar, Volume 20. Even without understanding Hebrew, the visual scanning of the letters activates the healing Light described in this portion.
5
Drink Kabbalah Water and participate in the Third Meal, if possible, the kabbalists teach that both strengthen the immune system in the most powerful way.
6
Give charity, even when it hurts. According to the Zohar and the Talmud, this act can literally avert a severe judgment.
