Vayera isn't about "seeing God". It's about becoming someone through whom God can be seen. The Light is revealed not through merit, but through likeness, when we become channels of giving, truth and purity of intention.
Vayera means "and He appeared". The portion opens on a revelation, and the question kabbalists ask is a simple one: what changed? On the side of the Light, nothing. It had not gone away, and it did not come back. What changed was on the side of the one who saw.
The Creator's Light does not withdraw and does not absent itself. It is our consciousness that fluctuates, and it wakes when a genuine desire to serve, to share and to lift another person is born. Revelation is not the Light arriving. It is us becoming available to see it.
Michael Berg teaches that real transformation happens when we choose spiritual authenticity, even when it exposes our flaws. It is an uncomfortable path and the only one that works, because Light does not settle where there is performance.
Vayera's revelation comes from precision: acting, thinking and speaking with the same intention. And energy renews only when the focus returns to the source and leaves the result, when the question stops being what do I gain and becomes how much Light can I channel.

Vayera invites us to become someone through whom the Creator can be seen.
The portion of Vayera opens with the words "and the Creator revealed Himself to Abraham". Rav Berg teaches that this Light never hides, it is our consciousness that oscillates between seeing it and not seeing it. Only when we awaken a genuine desire to serve, share and elevate others does the "invisible" become visible. Michael Berg deepens this idea across three articles: in "It Is Better to Be Truthful and Fall", he shows that true transformation requires choosing spiritual authenticity even when it exposes our flaws, because Light dwells only where there is truth. In "Being Re-Energized by the Light of the Creator", he reminds us that spiritual energy only renews when we reconnect to the source, not the result.
