The one day of the year when the Creator points to your soul and says: "I want to spend these 24 hours with you alone."
24-hour window · Simchat Torah / Shmini Atzeret
✦ Self-guided study based on Michael Berg's teaching, "Connecting to the Surrounding Light" (free access: kabbalah.envoy.gift/xkYzLv).
Kabbalah teaches that Simchat Torah is a connection like no other: with no physical mitzvot, it reveals the direct intimacy between the soul and the Creator. Of the five levels of the soul, Nefesh, Ruach, Neshamah, Chayah and Yechidah, most of our work happens in the first three. But on this day the two highest, Chayah and Yechidah, open to us, the Messianic Light that removes pain, war and death from the world. So the day was not designed for personal blessings, but for the revelation of Light for the entire world, to awaken that global Light to heal collective pain.
The word Atzeret, "to pause, to hold close", describes the Creator's gesture: after everyone gathers on Sukkot, He says "now, I want to be with you alone". It is the day when the Creator's love and appreciation for the beauty and potential of each soul are most revealed. The Bnei Yissaschar teaches that Simchat Torah is about intimacy, dancing with the Torah, feeling seen. Even at home, without a physical Torah, meditate on being alone with the Light, wrapped in the Divine Presence. The goal is not to ask for blessings, but to become one with the Source of all blessings, and then clarity, abundance and healing flow naturally.
Signal the "Atzeret": pause and hold close.
set aside tasks and actions, remembering that today there are no rituals, only presence.
Reveal global Light to heal collective pain.
visualize Chayah and Yechidah descending over the whole world.
Receive the direct love and attention.
imagine the Creator pointing to you and saying "I want to be with you alone".
Open the portal of intimacy through joy.
dance, sing, or read words of wisdom with genuine joy.
Live the unification, not the reward.
instead of asking, meditate on merging with the Source of all blessings.
Anchor the Light and intimacy you lived.
give thanks for being invited to this meeting and carry the closeness forward.
"On this day I do not ask, I become one with the Light. Chayah and Yechidah awaken in me to heal the world."
Simchat Torah is the joy of the Torah, the joy of complete union with the Creator. Live these 24 hours as the personal meeting they are, and let intimacy with the Light pour over your life and over the whole world. Chag Sameach.
